
Pastor Ron Luckey, my pastor at
Faith Lutheran Church, Lexington, KY, now and then likes to conclude his fine homilies by suggesting that Christians who strongly disagree with one another might surely--because Christ is LORD--one day find themselves at guests of honor with Christ at the great Marriage Feast in heaven. Perhaps we got a foretaste of that unity in Christ when John McCain and Barak Obama attended the
Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner in New York City. There they were, sitting between Cardinal Edward M. Egan, head of the Archdiocese of New York, laughing at one another jokes, enjoying a respite from the heavy-handed political battle that now consumes their lives. It really is a bit of heaven!
