December 2: The First Sunday in AdventTonight on the Eve of Advent, many of us expect that tomorrow someone in our sanctuary will ignite the taper of the first candles in the Advent wreath. Each Sunday another candle will be lit as we make our way to Christmastide. The lighting of these candles reminds us that we are moving toward the Great Light, when the Word of God was translated into flesh as the Blessed Mary gave birth to her Son. These Advent Sunday take us, like Joseph pulling on the donkey on which Mary was riding, toward Christmas, the Great Fulcrum of history.
